Hackers found circulating fake antivirus which drops malware backdoor

Fake antivirus software is being used by hackers to spread malware.

A group of hackers was found promoting a fake antivirus software to distribute a malware payload which could infect the systems with the BlackNET RAT, while adding it to a botnet.  One of these malicious site has the following message-“Download our AI Corona Antivirus for the best possible protection against the Corona COVID-19 virus. Our scientists from Harvard University have been working on a special AI development to combat the virus using a mobile phone app.”

The victim will download the fake antivirus file from the site which will then deploy the malware backdoor to the victim’s system. This backdoor can further act as a gateway for various malware and ransomware which will destroy the cyber security of your system and network. The threat is serious as the hacker can launch various attacks using this backdoor.

The malicious activities may include DDoS attack, executing malicious codes and scripts, taking screenshots, stealing credentials and wallets, etc. NPAV recommends the users to never fall in such scams and traps that are laid by hackers and always use trustworthy software with proper license. Using such software may be free initially but will cost you way more in the long run.
