New android spyware was found recording phone calls and device screens covertly

The research report has claimed that the spyware can easily record user phone calls in a covert way.

The group initiating these attacks is APT-C-23 that has been targeting middle-eastern countries for last couple of years. The group has been launching various Windows and Android malware to infect user devices.

Recent research has unveiled that the capabilities of the spyware has been increased as compared to its previous versions. The previous version included features such as the ability to take photos, download/delete files, uninstall applications, steal SMS messages, contacts, and sim credit balances.

The new version has all these features along with added features like recording user screens and calls, reading notifications from messaging apps and closing the notifications from any security apps like anti-virus apps.

It does so by seeking user permissions when it is being installed. Since no user would consciously give such access, the malware uses technical terms in order to confuse users. These functionalities allow the hackers to track every activity of a user and pose a huge privacy breach.

NPAV recommends users to be careful of such malware campaigns as they can cause huge threats by using the obtained data, these attackers can ultimately not only hijack a user’s online accounts but also blackmail them with their personal photos and messages.
