Hackers have leaked an entire database containing login data of 100k Facebook users.
Researchers have reported that these leaked records are being used by hackers to launch credit card and Bitcoin scams. Facebook has been exploited multiple times by hackers and has always led to severe threats.
The tool used by hackers to lure their targeted victims was portrayed as an anonymous profile visitor tracking tool. The fake tool claimed that it will inform the user about all the profile visitors. For working properly the tool requested users to login using their Facebook credentials.
The tool used the user-provided credentials for various malicious activities. One of these acts was adding fake bitcoin trading site links in the comment section. Clicking on these links will redirect the users to a Bitcoin trading platform which of course was fake and tried to defraud users into giving up amounts starting from 250 Euros.
Hackers have left the database out in the open and it contains data of around 100,000 Facebook users. The size of the database was reported to be around 5.5 GB and contained the credentials and IP addresses of users.
Researchers have informed Facebook about these scams as their user base is being targeted by hackers. Cybersecurity experts have also asked Facebook to increase its security measures against comment spams and other malicious activities.
