Data breach at one of India’s leading job portal IIMJobs

IIMJobs is one of the leading and one of the 700 most visited sites in India.

The database of IIMJobs was leaked as a result of a data breach suffered by the organization. According to cybersecurity experts, the database was leaked on November 23rd, 2020 containing up to 46GB of data belonging to jobseekers and recruiters registered with IIMJobs.

Researchers have confirmed that 1.4 million registered users were affected due to this data breach. The leaked data includes sensitive personal information such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, geographic location, occupation/industry of work, and their LinkedIn profiles links.

The worst part of this data breach is that the stolen emails and passwords are now being circulated to Russian hackers in the form of MD5 hashes. MD5 hashes are easy to crack and can be used by hackers to launch various cyberattacks on targeted entities.

The leaked data is not too old as a majority of it was from last year, some of the information dating back to January 2019. This includes the exact location of the users, including longitude and latitude, and encrypted passwords.

NPAV recommends all the users of the IIMJobs portal to act quickly and change their passwords. Hackers will surely use these passwords and credentials to paint new targets and exploit them. Users are also requested to use strong passwords and keep changing them at regular intervals.

Install NPAV on your devices to keep them protected from all kinds of cyberattacks. Use NPAV and join us on a mission to secure the cyber world.
