Emergency legislation passed by US over fuel pipeline cyber attack

One of the largest Colonial pipelines of the US have fallen victim to a cyber attack.

The Colonial Pipeline carries 2.5 million barrels a day – 45% of the East Coast’s supply of diesel, gasoline and jet fuel. The pipeline system was completely knocked offline and authorities are still trying to restore the functionality.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the ransomware attack was caused by a cyber-criminal gang called DarkSide, who infiltrated Colonial’s network on Thursday and took almost 100GB of data hostage.

The authorities of the Colonial Pipeline have taken down their network and servers offline after knowing about the attack. The officials are also working actively on restoring their servers and systems so that the damage can be reduced to the minimum.
