The ordeal began innocuously enough with a phone call purportedly from FedEx courier, informing her of a parcel from Malaysia destined for Delhi, allegedly containing illicit substances. In a distressing turn of events, she was coerced into a video call with a fictitious ‘CBI constable’ who, in a chilling display of authenticity, even dispatched an arrest warrant to her via WhatsApp. The psychological pressure mounted as she was compelled to divulge personal information about her family, spouse, and banking credentials.
As the fabricated narrative unfolded, the fraudsters demanded payment for what they deceitfully termed as ‘fund legislation’. Faced with intimidation and threats, she reluctantly acquiesced, despite having only ₹3,000 in her account. The manipulation reached its zenith when they coerced her into liquidating her Fixed Deposits, each worth a staggering ₹25 lakh, under the false pretence of refunding the amount post-verification.
Tragically, the culmination of this elaborate deception left the victim financially devastated, with a loss totalling ₹48 lahks. The repercussions of such scams extend far beyond mere monetary loss, encompassing emotional trauma, shattered trust, and a profound sense of violation.
