Four IT Employees Charged with Data Theft in Pune, Causing ₹82 Crore Loss

The cyber police in Pimpri Chinchwad have filed a case against four employees of a Hinjewadi-based IT company for allegedly stealing confidential data, resulting in losses of ₹82 crore. The fraud reportedly occurred between April 2024 and August 2025.


A complaint was lodged by a representative of the affected firm, stating that the employees, including one woman, stole source codes and software solutions to establish their own company. The fraudulent activities significantly impacted the firm's business, leading to substantial financial losses.


The case has been registered under sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the operation and identify any collaborators, while the accused have not yet been apprehended.
This incident underscores the increasing challenges IT firms face in protecting sensitive intellectual property and proprietary data amid rising cyber fraud and insider threats.
