Auchan Cyberattack: Customer Data Compromised in Major Breach

French retailer Auchan announced on August 21 that it suffered a cyberattack, leading to the theft of loyalty account information for several hundred thousand customers. Personal data, including names, addresses, and loyalty card numbers, was accessed, but financial data remains secure.

The breach was quickly contained, and Auchan notified affected customers and reported the incident to the French data protection authority, CNIL. This marks Auchan's second significant data breach in a year, following a similar incident in November 2024.

In response, Auchan is enhancing security measures, including faster deployment of multifactor authentication and offering complimentary credit monitoring services to affected customers. Consumers are advised to stay vigilant against phishing attempts.
