A Delhi woman lost ₹20.89 lakh in a digital arrest scam where fraudsters impersonated Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials via Skype, falsely accusing her of crimes and tricking her into sharing OTPs and banking details. The scammers exploited her account, which held only ₹89,000, by creating fake companies and bank accounts to siphon funds. Delhi Police arrested five suspects—Lokesh Gupta, Manoj Chaudhary, Mohit Jain, Keshav Kumar, and Saif Ali—after raids in Delhi, Hapur, and Greater Noida, linking them to 473 nationwide complaints, including 24 from Delhi in 2025.

The gang used social engineering to build trust, then manipulated transactions for commissions, highlighting their sophisticated network. Investigations relied on technical surveillance to trace digital footprints, revealing how these scams leverage urgency and fear to bypass security.

To protect yourself:

Enable two-factor authentication (2FA), monitor bank accounts, verify official calls directly, and never share OTPs or personal info. Report incidents to the National Cyber Helpline 1930 or local police. This case stresses the need for digital vigilance against evolving fraud tactics.
