FastNetMon Mitigates Record 1.5 Billion Packets-Per-Second DDoS Attack on Major Scrubbing Vendor

FastNetMon, a leading DDoS detection provider, recently helped mitigate a record-breaking DDoS attack targeting a major scrubbing vendor in Western Europe. The attack peaked at 1.5 billion packets per second (1.5 Gpps), one of the highest packet-rate floods ever reported.

The assault was a massive UDP flood launched by a global botnet of compromised IoT devices and routers across 11,000+ networks. Unlike bandwidth-focused attacks, this high packet-per-second flood aimed to overwhelm network hardware capacity.

FastNetMon’s real-time detection system quickly identified the attack and activated mitigation, preventing service disruption. This event underscores the growing threat from large-scale, automated DDoS attacks leveraging insecure consumer devices.
