Online Instagram Love Leads to ₹3 Crore Extortion and Tragic Suicide

A 32-year-old chartered accountant, Raj Leela More, tragically took his own life in Santacruz after enduring relentless blackmail that forced him to pay approximately ₹3 crore (US\$364,000) over 18 months. Police allege that two individuals, Rahul Parwani (26), an aspiring model, and Saba Qureshi (22), whom More met on Instagram, extorted him by obtaining compromising videos and threatening to make them public.

The Emotional and Financial Toll
According to Mumbai’s Vakola police, More was coerced into draining his personal savings, misappropriating company funds, and even purchasing a luxury car in his name while the accused collected monthly loan EMIs. Despite previous police complaints, he was unable to escape the mounting pressure. On Saturday evening, while his ailing mother slept nearby, More ingested poison and was later pronounced dead at a hospital. The police have filed charges for extortion and abetment to suicide.

Manipulation and Control
Police report that Parwani built trust with More on Instagram before involving Qureshi in the scheme. Their tactics included personal manipulation, threats to leak intimate content, and public humiliation. More’s access to corporate finances was exploited, leading to unauthorized financial transfers.
