A 32-year-old software engineer from Ullal Upanagara fell victim to a cryptocurrency scam, losing ₹55.64 lakh to a cybercriminal posing as a prospective bride on a matrimonial portal. The fraudster, using the name Niharika Gowda, gained the victim's trust through a series of conversations that progressed from introductions to discussions about marriage.

The Digital Courtship
Their initial contact on a matrimonial platform quickly developed into a seemingly genuine connection. The scammer built trust over time, which she later exploited to execute the fraud.

The Lure of Fake Investments
Once rapport was established, the fraudster introduced a fake cryptocurrency investment scheme, sending the victim a link to a fraudulent website and guiding him on creating a digital wallet. Trusting her, he made an initial investment of ₹1 lakh, encouraged by the promise of high returns.
