Crypto Scammer Uses Claude Code to Target 100,000+ Phone Numbers

A new cryptocurrency scam, Operation ASTERIX, is using AI coding tools, large phone-number databases, phishing, and fake support calls to identify and target potential crypto users. Attackers reportedly processed hundreds of thousands of numbers and used account validation to create highly targeted victim profiles.

The campaign also distributes fake Ledger, Trezor, and Exodus applications designed to steal wallet recovery phrases and sensitive data. The use of AI tools makes the operation more scalable and difficult to detect.

Security teams should monitor suspicious downloads, phishing activity, fake wallet applications, and unusual credential or data theft behavior.
