iPhone vulnerable to Coruna and DarkSword exploit kits

Apple has warned that older iPhones running outdated iOS versions are vulnerable to advanced exploit kits such as Coruna and DarkSword. These attacks are delivered through malicious web content, where simply visiting a compromised website or clicking a harmful link can trigger an infection chain and lead to the theft of sensitive data from the device.

Apple confirmed that newer iOS versions (iOS 15 and above) already include patches for these vulnerabilities, and users on updated devices are not at risk. However, users with older devices are strongly advised to update to the latest supported versions, such as iOS 15.8.7 or iOS 16.7.15. For devices that cannot be updated further, Apple recommends enabling Lockdown Mode to reduce exposure to web-based attacks.

Security researchers from iVerify note that these exploit kits, once used mainly in targeted nation-state attacks, are now being widely adopted by cybercriminals. This shift indicates that powerful mobile hacking tools are becoming more accessible, increasing the risk of large-scale attacks on unpatched iPhones worldwide.
