Cyber scam victim

A 54-year-old housewife in Hyderabad fell victim to an online scam, losing ₹1.61 crore. The fraud began with a seemingly innocent WhatsApp message offering a part-time job to rate hotels on Telegram. The scammers quickly gained her trust by introducing an “economic task” that promised high returns. After investing ₹2,000 and receiving a return of ₹2,800, she was convinced of the opportunity's legitimacy.

As her confidence grew, she was persuaded to make larger investments, starting with ₹5,000 and escalating to ₹1,48,000, all under the guise of real investments. Once deeply involved, the scammers coerced her into making additional payments, claiming she needed to correct various “errors.” This included demands for ₹2,98,000 to “unlock” returns, ₹6,00,000 to “boost her credit score,” and further payments totaling over ₹50,00,000 for supposed service charges.
