India Post Address Update Scam: How to Spot the Fake Link

A fake delivery message can easily look genuine, especially when it says your parcel is delayed because of an incorrect address. Rajasthan Police has warned users about scammers impersonating India Post, Speed Post and courier companies to steal payment and banking details.

The messages may arrive through SMS, WhatsApp, email or phone calls. Victims are directed to a fake website or sometimes asked to install an APK file. They are then told to pay a small fee of around ₹10–₹50 to update their delivery address. The fake page may ask for card details, net-banking credentials or a UPI PIN, potentially leading to unauthorised transactions.

This scam is particularly relevant for Indian online shoppers, especially during busy festive-sale periods when delivery messages are common. Businesses should also remind employees not to trust unexpected courier links received on work or personal phones.

How to Stay Safe

  • Check parcel details only through the official India Post website or verified courier channels.
  • Do not open unexpected delivery links or install APK files received through messages.
  • Never enter a UPI PIN to receive a parcel or update an address.
  • For India Post queries, use its official tracking service or helpline: 1800-266-6868.
  • Report suspected financial fraud immediately by calling 1930 or using the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
  • Keep your phone and security software updated.
  • A genuine delivery issue does not require you to share your UPI PIN. If a message creates urgency and asks for even a small payment, stop and verify it through an official channel.

Scams involving fake websites and stolen payment details show why secure browsing and fraud protection matter. Net Protector’s security solutions can provide an additional layer of protection, but users should still never share their UPI PIN or OTP.
