Major Data Breach at Tea App: 11 Million Women Users' Private Information Exposed
A significant data breach involving the Tea dating app, popular among women worldwide, has compromised the private data of over 11 million female users. This includes selfies, identification documents, and personal conversations, as reported by cybersecurity firm vpnMentor.
The breach was caused by a misconfigured cloud server that exposed more than 274 gigabytes of sensitive data, including scans of photo IDs and explicit chat logs. Tea, which promotes itself as a “female-first” platform focused on safety and verification, requires users to submit selfies and IDs during onboarding. Unfortunately, this security measure has now put users at risk.
Researchers found that the exposed data was stored on an unsecured Amazon Web Services (AWS) bucket, accessible without authentication. The scale of this breach is considered one of the most serious privacy violations on a dating platform in recent times.
