A recent report has raised alarms about cybercrime losses in Delhi, revealing that residents have collectively lost approximately INR 1,450 crore over the past decade. In 2024 alone, Delhiites suffered losses of INR 817 crore from 1,591 incidents, with an additional ₹70.64 crore lost in the first half of 2025 across 184 reported cases.

Deputy Commissioner Hemant Tiwari of the Delhi Police Cyber Cell noted that nearly 700 individuals fall victim to cyber scams daily, resulting in 200–250 financial fraud cases. Common schemes include “digital arrest” frauds, investment scams, OTP theft, sextortion, and deepfake blackmail.

As Delhi increasingly relies on digital payments and online communication, it has become a prime target for cybercriminals. Victims are often coerced through fake legal threats or enticing investment offers, leading to immediate transactions to mule accounts.
