Software AG hit by Clop ransomware, demands ransom over $20 million.
Helpdesk and internal communication system of German tech giant Software AG was targeted by Clop ransomware.
Germany's second largest tech giant suffered a ransomware attack which lead in shutting down of internal systems. $20 million was the ransom amount that was demanded by the ransomware actors.
According to the company, its cloud offerings weren’t affected; however, its internal communications and helpdesk went offline and haven’t recovered fully as yet. Software AG is one of the world’s leading software firms with over 10,000 enterprise customers in 70 countries, including Fujitsu, Vodafone and Airbus.
Clop ransomware group has confirmed that they are behind this attack. To prove their involvement, the have shared screenshots of some stolen data like financial documents, employee ID scans and passport, employee emails, and internal network directories.
According to security researchers Clop ransomware has stolen 1 TB of data from the organization. Software AG has reported that no customer services will be disrupted because of these attacks on their firm.
The clop gang has been targeting enterprises since 2019. Its key targets are companies in the US, Europe (specifically Germany), India, Russia, Mexico, and Turkey.
