COVID-19 vaccine data of Pfizer and BioNTech was leaked by Hackers
Leaked data is now being circulated and shared on hacker forums over the internet.
European Medicine Agency (EMA) has reported that the vaccine data from Pfizer and BioNTech was stolen in a cyberattack that took place on December 19th, 2020. The agency confirmed that hackers broke into its server and have stolen the vaccine data.
It's confirmed that some of the documents were related to the companies’ regulatory submissions of the BNT16262 vaccine, stored on the organization’s server. Shortly after the attack, the hackers leaked the stolen data as part of a cyberattack targeted against the EMA.
EMA started investigating the matter with law enforcement agencies and found that the data was present on different forums. The EMA didn’t disclose the attack’s specifics, such as the timeframe, the original point of compromise, and the data accessed.
EMA has recently stated that its servers are up and running. They will ensure that there is no latency in the approval of vaccine. A Pfizer spokesperson stated that BioNTech or Pfizer’s systems weren’t breached in this incident, and they didn’t find any evidence of personal data being accessed as yet.
