Hackers infiltrate woman's Swiggy account, making unauthorized purchases totaling Rs 97,000.
In a distressing incident, a 26-year-old woman fell victim to cyber criminals who breached her Swiggy account, resulting in unauthorized orders totalling a staggering Rs 97,000. While the perpetrators, Aniket Kalra and Himanshu Kumar, have been apprehended, the incident sheds light on the importance of safeguarding our online accounts from such threats.
The victim, unaware of the impending danger, was tricked by the cyber criminals into divulging sensitive information, providing them access to her Swiggy account. The subsequent loss of nearly Rs 1 lakh underscores the need for heightened awareness and security measures in the digital age.
Swiggy's Response and Enhanced Security Measures:
Following the incident, Swiggy has taken swift action to address the vulnerability in its system. The company has identified the specific payment instrument, Lazypay, associated with the scam. In response, Swiggy has implemented a solution to automatically delink user wallets and Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) accounts on new device logins and contact number changes. Additionally, the platform is in the process of scaling up security measures, including the introduction of two-factor authentication.
As online transactions become an integral part of our daily lives, it is crucial to prioritize the security of our accounts. Users are encouraged to stay vigilant and adopt best practices such as regularly updating passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and being cautious about sharing sensitive information online.
The unfortunate incident serves as a reminder that cyber threats are ever-present, and taking proactive steps to secure our digital presence is imperative. By staying informed and implementing robust security measures, we can enjoy the convenience of online services like Swiggy without falling prey to malicious activities.
