Ransomware attack on Nagpur’s ammo maker - Solar Group
Imagine, the confidential information about rocket audits, engineering plans, and ammunition that are being produced or developed by a private company that works in coalition with defense agencies and organizations like DRDO, ISRO has been stolen and is being bidden by people to buy the sensitive information from the hacker group.
On January 21, four Ransome emails were sent to SIL India demanding money, they failed to negotiate with the hacker group. The hacker group BlackCat or ALPHV put some of the stolen data on the dark web "within 24 hours". Generally, in this type of attack, hackers lock all the valuable files by using encryption and they demand ransom to get the encryption key, so the victim can access their files. But in this attack, they sent ransomware emails but didn't lock the files which were stolen. The hacker group claimed to have stolen 2 terabytes of data and soon they will put the rest of the data also for bidding on the dark web.
They did report to the cyber cell of the city police of Nagpur, and now the central bureau of investigation may probe this case.
This company was one of the private companies who are involved in developing ammunition for the army, rockets, and another project of ISRO also. The reports stated that the audit of many weapons including Rocket Pinaka MK-1, propellant Pinaka MK-II enhanced and guided, ADM-1, and other related information has been stolen. They also manufacture ammunition for the army & work on various projects such as weapon systems like pinaka rockets, anti-aircraft rounds, hand grenades, and boosters for long-range missile systems.
