Personal data of 1.41m US doctors sold by hackers
Cybercriminals are continuing their attacks on medical sector amidst of COVID-19 pandemic.
Hackers and attackers are using various cheap tricks like selling fake vaccines and masks, setting up malware in corona virus information links to trick various users. In the latest attack it was found that hackers are selling personal data of 1.41m doctors online.
Researchers have found that the database of doctors and their information was compromised by an online site that lets the users book appointments and browse doctors. The website requires both the doctors and users to register themselves by putting in their personal information.
The leaked information didn't contain medical records or photos of the patients. The compromised data however had full names, genders, name of the hospital – organization where they work, their location, mailing address, practice address, country, phone numbers, license number, and much more.
The good news is that the leaked data did not contain email addresses so they can't be used for phishing mails or malware threats. The compromised phone number can be used by the hackers to launch smishing attack which involves sending malicious messages to the mobile devices. There are a number of cyber attacks that can be launched by hackers using this information.
Hackers are targeting the most important sector in the current situation which is really alarming for the entire world. NPAV recommends organizations to make proper cyber security arrangements around the world as compromised cyber security can cause a lot of menace in the society.
